1 / 22Plunketts Cottage
Brancaster, Norfolk
A three bedroom farm cottage for six at Brancaster on a working farm, with a private enclosed garden, an open fire and one dog welcome, close to the north Norfolk coast.
Brancaster was Branodunum first, a Roman fort put on this shore to watch the water, and the village kept the name in worn down form. Plunketts Cottage is dog friendly and stands on a working farm just outside it, three bedrooms sleeping six, two bathrooms, a private enclosed garden and one dog welcome. Farm and marsh meet within a few hundred yards of the door.
A working farm around a holiday cottage changes the terms for a dog and the owners will tell you so. There is stock, there are vehicles, and a lead comes off in the private garden rather than in the yard. What you get in exchange is a dog that spends a week smelling things no town ever offers, and an enclosed square of its own to be turned loose in the moment it comes back through the gate.
Six sleep here. One room has bunks, one has twin beds, and the double gets a shower room to itself, with the bath in the family bathroom. An open fire burns in the lounge, and a second sitting room takes whoever wants the television, which at six people turns out to matter. The dog will be in the first room, in front of the fire, from about half past four.
Brancaster's beach is a wide one with a firm bottom and a great deal of it at low water, and Scolt Head Island lies off the far end of the harbour channel with terns nesting on it in season. Behind the beach the marsh and the creeks run east along the staithe, and the Norfolk Coast Path crosses the whole of it, so a dog gets sand or saltmarsh depending on which direction it is pointed.

Book with holidaycottages.co.ukFrequently Asked Questions
Is Plunketts Cottage dog friendly?
Yes, Plunketts Cottage welcomes one dog. It's a working farm cottage just outside Brancaster, with a private enclosed garden where your dog can be let off the lead freely, and the north Norfolk coast — wide beach, saltmarsh and the Norfolk Coast Path — just a few hundred yards away.
Are dogs allowed at Plunketts Cottage year round?
The listing confirms dogs are welcome at Plunketts Cottage, though it doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions. For details on particular dates, it's worth checking directly with the owners when you book.
What should I know before visiting Plunketts Cottage with my dog?
Because Plunketts is set on a working farm, there is livestock and farm vehicles to be mindful of, so dogs should be kept on a lead in the yard and communal areas. The private enclosed garden is the place to let them loose — and once you're out on the doorstep, the marsh, creeks and Brancaster's broad sandy beach offer plenty of room to roam.
