Book now

Red Kite Lodge is a charming log cabin on the English and Welsh border, 4 miles from the book town of Hay-on-Wye, with wonderful views of the Wye Valley. Spacious and all on one level, this dog friendly cabin sleeps six and takes two dogs, with walking trails and mountain biking routes from the doorstep and the Brecon Beacons National Park close by.

Inside, rustic charm meets modern comfort. The open plan living space brings together a well equipped kitchen, a dining area for family feasts and a comfy lounge with a wood burner, made for film nights, board games and stories of the day while the dogs sleep off the walk. There are three beautifully decorated bedrooms, a twin and two doubles, one with its own en suite shower room, and a stylish family shower room completes the layout.

French doors open onto the wooden balcony, the place for morning coffee and the Wye Valley scenery. The secure, enclosed garden has plenty of space for children and dogs to run free while the adults relax, with a BBQ, a table for dinner in the open air and golden sunsets over the hills. There are sheep and the owner's own dogs on site, and the lodge is one of two here, with the other lodge and the farmhouse out of sight and entirely separate.

The River Wye, 2.5 miles away, has barbel, trout and salmon, and the owner is a keen fisherman with tips to share. The Black Mountains are there to explore with the dogs, Pen y Fan is the highest peak in the Brecon Beacons, and for every visitor the owner plants a tree on their land, around 7,000 so far.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Red Kite Lodge dog friendly?

Yes, Red Kite Lodge welcomes two dogs. The garden is properly fenced rather than just loosely bounded, which makes a real difference when you have dogs to look after, and there's enough space for them to run freely rather than pace about.

  • Are dogs allowed at Red Kite Lodge year round?

The listing doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions on dogs, but we'd recommend contacting the owner directly to confirm availability and any conditions for your dates.

  • What should I know before visiting Red Kite Lodge with my dog?

The lodge accepts two dogs and has a securely fenced garden, so you won't need to keep a constant eye on them once you're settled in. There's also a brilliant off-road walk from the property to Arthur's Stone, a neolithic burial chamber on the ridge above the Golden Valley, that the listing specifically notes can be done with two dogs without meeting a road.
