Rochester House Barn
Rochester, Northumberland
A one bedroom barn conversion for two in Redesdale on a working farm, with an enclosed decked garden, a four poster and a hot tub off the bedroom, one dog welcome.
One bedroom, one dog, and a hot tub reached from it without crossing the house. Rochester House Barn is a dog friendly conversion on a working farm in Redesdale, two in a four poster with a sofa bed for a third, its decked garden enclosed. Redesdale itself is 400 square miles of moor with almost nobody on it.
The front door opens into a farmhouse kitchen with a Welsh dresser and a pine table. Down a step to the right is the lounge, with a wood burner, the sofa bed and little else it needs. Left of the kitchen is the bedroom, the four poster in it, its own shower room and the door out to the tub. Logs come with the burner. A dog has one floor, one forecourt and one deck to learn, and will have finished before the bags are in.
A cottage for two, then, with a third bed for a child or for somebody who does not mind a sofa. One dog. What it gives up in size it takes back in quiet: a farm, a hamlet, a tub on a deck with no window over it. Anybody who has tried an evening outdoors somewhere overlooked knows what that is worth.
Rochester is built on top of a Roman fort. Bremenium held the northernmost garrison on Dere Street, its walls and ballista platforms still standing in the field behind the houses. The road went on north over the moss to the camps at Chew Green on the border ridge, and its line is walkable, open ground where a dog runs loose with nothing to consider but sheep. Hareshaw Linn and its waterfall are 3 miles south.

Book with holidaycottages.co.ukFrequently Asked Questions
Is Rochester House Barn dog friendly?
Yes, Rochester House Barn welcomes one dog. It's a well-suited setup for a dog — a single-floor barn conversion with a forecourt and an enclosed decked garden, so your dog has a clear, contained space to settle into quickly.
Are dogs allowed at Rochester House Barn year round?
The listing doesn't specify seasonal restrictions on dogs, so it's worth contacting the owner directly to confirm availability and any conditions around your stay. What is clear is that the barn and its surroundings — open Redesdale moorland, a Roman road walkable from the village, and Hareshaw Linn just 3 miles south — make it a strong base for dogs at any time of year.
What should I know before visiting Rochester House Barn with my dog?
The property accommodates one dog, so it's not suitable for multi-dog households. The decked garden is enclosed, which is handy for letting a dog out safely, but the surrounding farmland is a working farm, so leads and good recall around livestock will matter — particularly on the open moorland and Roman road walks nearby where sheep are present.
