Rock Moor Farm Cottage

Rock, Northumberland

A three bedroom cottage for five at Rock near Embleton with a porch, a boot room and an enclosed lawned garden with play equipment, and four dogs welcome.

Four dogs, and the owners have written down where they go: downstairs, off the furniture, and not left in the cottage alone. That is unusually specific, and it is why this one can take four when almost nothing else on the coast takes more than two. Rock Moor Farm Cottage sleeps five across three bedrooms at Rock, dog friendly on those terms, an enclosed lawned garden behind and a boot room past the kitchen.

The porch takes coats and leads before the house door opens, and that boot room holds the washing machine with a cloakroom beside it, so four dogs can be dealt with twice a day and none of it reaches a carpet. One long room holds the living space: a feature fireplace, Chesterfields around it, a wood burner further along, French doors onto the garden. Above are three bedrooms, a double, a single with a roll-away, and a twin.

Table football is being played badly and loudly at the far end. Two of the four dogs are under the dining table, which is extended and has been since Tuesday. A third is at the French doors, watching the garden for something that is not in it. The fourth found the exact spot in front of the burner an hour ago and will not be moved before nine.

Rock is a farm hamlet inland of Rennington, and what you get is the ground between: estate farmland, big hedgeless fields, a church in a walled yard, sky in every direction. Embleton Bay is 3 miles east with the coast path along it. Between here and the sea the lanes are single track and carry nothing, which is what four dogs and one lead holder actually need.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Rock Moor Farm Cottage dog friendly?

Yes, and generously so — Rock Moor Farm Cottage welcomes up to four dogs, which is rare for a coastal Northumberland property where two is usually the limit. The cottage has an enclosed lawned garden, a porch for coats and leads, and a boot room with a washing machine and cloakroom, so it's genuinely set up for multi-dog groups rather than just tolerating them.

  • Are dogs allowed at Rock Moor Farm Cottage year round?

The listing doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions on dogs, so there's nothing to suggest they aren't welcome throughout the year. If timing is important to your trip, it's worth confirming directly with the owners when you book.

  • What should I know before visiting Rock Moor Farm Cottage with my dog?

The owners have set out clear house rules: dogs are welcome downstairs, off the furniture, and must not be left alone in the cottage. These terms are what allow the property to take four dogs, so they're worth keeping in mind when planning your stay.
