1 / 24Seaview Cottage
Spittal, Northumberland
A three bedroom cottage for seven on the promenade at Spittal with a suntrap patio, an enclosed lawn above it and the beach across the road, two dogs welcome.
Somebody arranged the ground floor so the sea is in the room you live in, not the one you sleep in: an open lounge and diner, bay window at one end, wood burner opposite. Seaview Cottage stands on the promenade at Spittal, dog friendly, three bedrooms sleeping seven, two dogs, and a suntrap patio behind climbs stone steps to an enclosed lawn. The beach is across the road.
The kitchen is through double doors with a range oven, and a WC on that floor, no small matter with seven people and two dogs. Two bedrooms are up the first flight, a double with a bay window onto the water and a twin, their bathroom keeping a corner shower apart from the bath. The top floor is one room: a double, a day bed for a seventh, a Juliet balcony and an en-suite.
The tide is well out and the promenade is empty both ways. Both dogs are on the sand already, which starts over the road and runs north to the pier. Somebody in the top room has the balcony open and is shouting down about a dolphin, which may or may not be one. The burner is unlit and nobody has come in.
Berwick is over the water and worth the walk. Its Elizabethan ramparts run right round the town, low and thick and built against cannon rather than height, the circuit on top an hour's walk. Three bridges cross the Tweed side by side, a seventeenth century one, a railway viaduct and a road bridge, in one view. South of Spittal the shore runs to Cocklawburn, limestone ledges and dunes with old kilns behind, dogs on it the year round.

Book with holidaycottages.co.ukFrequently Asked Questions
Is Seaview Cottage dog friendly?
Yes, Seaview Cottage welcomes up to two dogs. It sits right on the promenade at Spittal with the beach directly across the road, so it's a genuinely practical base for dogs as well as a comfortable one for people.
Are dogs allowed at Seaview Cottage year round?
The cottage itself is available for dogs throughout the year. The nearby shore running south to Cocklawburn — limestone ledges and dunes with old kilns behind — is also open to dogs year round, giving you good walking options whatever the season.
What should I know before visiting Seaview Cottage with my dog?
The cottage takes a maximum of two dogs, so it's worth confirming that at the time of booking. On the practical side, there's a WC on the ground floor alongside the kitchen, a suntrap patio and an enclosed lawn above it, and the beach starts just across the road — all of which makes life with dogs here fairly straightforward.
