Tucked away up a private lane on a 550 acre working farm, Shepherds Linhay is a cedar clad detached barn on the edge of the Quantock Hills that gazes out across the Somerset Levels. There are miles of walks directly from the property, through a landscape teeming with wildlife, and this stylish, dog friendly barn takes two guests with two dogs.
The barn is single storey, and its light and spacious lounge, kitchen and diner has large sliding doors onto the decking, underfloor heating throughout, comfortable seating for watching the seasons change, and a wood burner for snug evenings in front of a film. The dining table is a beautiful bespoke piece, made from an oak tree on the farm that came down in a storm. The dogs, meanwhile, doze by the fire.
A bespoke window projects out from the front of the building in the king size bedroom, creating a window seat that makes the most of the long views, and the contemporary en suite shower room is part of the room. Push the sliding doors open and the decking becomes part of the living space. Beyond it, the dogs have the enclosed garden, with a table and chairs, a barbecue, a covered seating area and, best of all after dark under starry skies, a wood fired hot tub.
Blue Anchor and Watchet are the closest beaches, a good outing for the dogs, while Exmoor and the steam trains of the West Somerset Railway are within reach. For day trips there are Hestercombe Gardens, Cheddar Gorge and the coastal village of Dunster, and the Jurassic Coast towns of Lyme Regis, Beer and Sidmouth to the south.
