Skybreak

Appledore, Devon

An eight sleeper above Appledore with an enclosed rear garden, three dogs welcome, a hot tub on the patio and the flat Tarka Trail three miles off.

Eight people, three dogs and four bedrooms is a hard combination to fill without ending up somewhere anonymous. Skybreak manages it. It is a four bedroom house on the hill at Appledore with a snug, air conditioning on the top floor and a private hot tub, which is usually the specification that arrives with a no dogs line attached.

Not here. Three dogs, and an enclosed rear garden with steps up to a patio, so there is grass at the bottom and somewhere to sit at the top. Whilst you take the estuary view, your dog gets North Devon in every direction. The Tarka Trail is the one to lead with: three miles away, entirely flat and traffic free, which makes it the walk for the day after a long one. Westward Ho is nearer at two and a half, and Saunton Sands at just over four rates a nine and runs for three miles at low water.

Three bathrooms across four bedrooms means eight people and three dogs get out of the house in the morning without a queue, which sounds trivial until you have tried the alternative. The enclosed garden takes the pressure off the rest of it. With three dogs, somewhere they can simply be, unsupervised and off the lead, is the difference between a holiday and a week of door management.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Skybreak dog friendly?

Yes, and genuinely so — Skybreak welcomes up to three dogs, which is more than most places of this standard will consider. There's an enclosed rear garden where dogs can be off the lead and unsupervised, and the hot tub comes without the usual no-dogs clause attached.

  • Are dogs allowed at Skybreak year round?

The listing doesn't specify seasonal restrictions on dogs, so it's worth checking directly with the owner to confirm availability for your dates. What we can say is that the setup — enclosed garden, generous dog allowance, nearby year-round trails — feels built for dog owners whenever they visit.

  • What should I know before visiting Skybreak with my dog?

The enclosed rear garden has grass at the bottom and a patio above, so dogs have space to roam freely without constant supervision. For walks, the Tarka Trail is three miles away and completely flat and traffic-free — a good shout if your dog needs an easier day — while Westward Ho is just two and a half miles and Saunton Sands, rated nine out of ten and stretching three miles at low water, is around four miles away.
