Twelve guests and two dogs can gather at Span Farmhouse, a delightful stone built house in the peaceful countryside of the Isle of Wight, just 2 miles from Ventnor. It is a dog friendly house on a working sheep farm, ideal for horse riders and walkers, with easy access to the coastal footpath and the local bridleways.

First comes the conservatory, filled with light and plenty of comfortable seating. Beyond it the dining room has a lovely wood burner and room for all twelve, the country cottage style kitchen has an electric range cooker and a charming breakfast area, while the sitting room pairs stone walls with another wood burner, its first logs supplied, and a Smart TV. The utility room sits handily by the back door for muddy returns with the dogs.

Six bedrooms fill the two floors above: two king size en suites, a children's twin, and the master with a king size four poster whose en suite, renovated in 2024, centres on a free standing bath, then a twin and a spacious super king at the top. The owners very much welcome dogs, with a few house rules: please never leave them unattended, and keep them off furniture, out of bedrooms and on leads in communal areas and the main yard. The expansive enclosed garden, with plenty of seating, a dining area and a BBQ, is the dogs' evening territory.

From the coastal path the dogs can reach Steephill Cove, a secluded cove accessible only on foot, with a beachfront restaurant celebrated for its locally sourced crab. Ventnor's famed sandy beach is close by, and its Botanic Gardens show off subtropical plants in the area's unique microclimate.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Span Farmhouse dog friendly?

Yes, Span Farmhouse welcomes up to two dogs. The ground floor has practical, hard-wearing flooring suited to dogs coming in from a farm, and there's a back door opening directly onto the fully enclosed garden, which makes life with dogs genuinely easy.

  • Are dogs allowed at Span Farmhouse year round?

The listing doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions on dogs, so it's worth contacting the property directly to confirm availability for your dates. What we can say is that the setup — enclosed garden, farm tracks on the doorstep, coast two miles south — makes it a good base whatever time of year you visit.

  • What should I know before visiting Span Farmhouse with my dog?

Span Farmhouse sits on a working sheep farm, so dogs are welcome to roam the enclosed garden freely but must be kept on leads in the shared yard and any parts of the farm used by everyone. It's a sensible rule given the livestock around the property, and the farm's own tracks still make for a great first walk of the day.
