St Michaels Church is a beautifully converted church in the heart of Soudley, a traditional mining village within the Forest of Dean, and the forest trails can be reached straight from the church. Sympathetically restored in a renovation completed in 2024, it keeps many original features alongside contemporary comforts, and makes a memorable dog friendly stay for eight guests and two dogs.

The original wooden door opens into a wood panelled entrance hall, light in colour and ready for coats and boots, before the main body of the church. The open plan living space is filled with natural light from the original windows, with a cosy seating area gathered round the wood burner, logs included, where the dogs can curl up of an evening. A circular table gathers everyone at dinnertime, and the former altar space, with its high ceiling and original stained glass windows, makes a wonderful games area or snug.

A ground floor bunk room with wooden shutters will delight children, while the first floor has a twin, a pair of king size rooms, the first with its own en suite, and the family bathroom with its roll top bath. The gardens surround the church, with a secluded, enclosed area to the rear where a table, chairs and BBQ wait, and to the side is an outdoor utility area with hard standing that is great for cleaning bikes and dogs alike.
