Stable Barn is a pretty Grade II listed cottage at Newchurch, converted in 2010 from a milking parlour, and it is a dog friendly holiday home where four guests and their two dogs settle into a beautiful and tranquil rural setting. Living, sleeping and bathing all happen on a single level here, and the views run across to the Arreton and Mersley Downs.

Inside, the one big living room, with its kitchen and dining corner, feels bright and open, with a vaulted ceiling and attractive beams. Floor to ceiling glass tri fold doors fold back to make the garden seem part of the living room, so the dogs can drift between the two. The lounge is bright and welcoming, the dining area delightful, and the kitchen is fully equipped. Both bedrooms have lovely rural views and a door in each to the outside: a king size room whose en suite has a bath, and a twin whose en suite has a shower.

Behind the cottage, fenced and gated, the garden holds an ornamental cherry and an apple tree. A raised patio sits just outside the living room doors, and a gravelled area with garden furniture is set for morning coffee, a glass of wine or dinner, with the dogs stretched out nearby.

Footpaths lead directly from the cottage to nearby villages and join the Bembridge Trail, which means the dogs' first walk of the day begins at the door. A cycle path through Newchurch and Godshill links Sandown with Newport, the sandy beaches of Sandown and Shanklin are a short drive away, and Carisbrooke Castle, The Garlic Farm, the steam railway at Havenstreet and Osborne House are all worth the trip.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Stable Barn - Newchurch dog friendly?

Yes, Stable Barn welcomes up to two dogs. The barn sits on a working farm with a fenced and gated garden to the rear, and each bedroom has its own door straight outside, so dogs can move in and out easily without disturbing the whole house.

  • Are dogs allowed at Stable Barn - Newchurch year round?

The listing doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions on dogs, so it's best to check directly with the property when booking to confirm availability for your dates. What is clear is that the setup — with field paths from the door and a private fenced garden — suits a dog visit at any time of year.

  • What should I know before visiting Stable Barn - Newchurch with my dog?

The barn takes a maximum of two dogs, and the fenced, gated garden gives them a safe space to roam without you having to watch every move. Footpaths run directly from the barn towards neighbouring villages and onto the Bembridge Trail, and sandy beaches are a short drive east, so there's plenty to keep dogs well-walked across a stay.
