Sunnybank - Velindre

Velindre, Powys

Five dogs are welcome at Sunnybank, a detached traditional cottage in Velindre sleeping seven, with a cosy wood burner, a large enclosed garden and the Black Mountains from the front door.

Book now

Sunnybank stands in the tranquil village of Velindre, at the heart of the Brecon Beacons National Park: a detached, traditional dog friendly cottage for seven guests and up to five dogs. The foothills of the Black Mountains are reached from the front door, and well-marked footpaths lead from the village straight into them.

Muddy boots come off in the welcoming entrance hall. Beyond it, kitchen and dining area share one open-plan space, with a modern, fully equipped kitchen and a generous wooden dining table where tomorrow's walk gets planned. The cosy lounge looks out on the garden and has a crackling wood burner as well as a Smart TV, while a separate snug offers another space for a book, a film or a board game. House rules keep dogs off the furnishings and out of the bedrooms, and with the wood burner going they rarely want to be anywhere else.

Upstairs are four beautifully appointed bedrooms: a super-king master with spectacular countryside views, a king-size and a double that overlook the village, and a fourth with a day bed. A family bathroom, a separate shower room and a downstairs WC complete the house. Outside, the enclosed gardens have a patio for alfresco dining against farmland and mountain views, plus a fire pit, and it is a large garden, with space for all five dogs.

Velindre sits between the historic market towns of Talgarth, 3 miles away, and Hay-on-Wye, 5 miles away. Llangorse Lake offers kayaking, canoeing, paddleboarding and fishing, National Cycle Route 8 runs through the village, and at night the world-famous dark skies of the Brecon Beacons put on a show. For the dogs, the walking starts at the front door.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Sunnybank - Velindre dog friendly?

Yes — Sunnybank welcomes up to five dogs on a single booking, which is a generous allowance for a house of this size. The ground floor is set up with dogs in mind, and there's an enclosed garden behind the house where they can roam freely.

  • Are dogs allowed at Sunnybank - Velindre year round?

The listing doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions on dogs, so it's worth contacting the owner directly to confirm availability for your dates. The enclosed garden and nearby walking on Llandefalle Hill and along the Wye make it a good base whatever time of year you visit.

  • What should I know before visiting Sunnybank - Velindre with my dog?

The owner asks that dogs stay off the furnishings and out of the bedrooms, so all five dogs live downstairs for the duration of your stay. It's a sensible rule to agree among your group before you arrive, particularly if you're travelling with multiple dogs. The ground floor is well suited to it, and with an enclosed garden and outdoor space they'll have plenty of room.
