The Lokki

Beadnell, Northumberland

A two bedroom cottage for four at Beadnell with everything on one floor, a summer house in the enclosed lawn and a garage for wet kit, two dogs welcome.

The summer house is where the dogs go first, because it has the seating in it and the door is usually open. The Lokki stands a couple of hundred yards back from Beadnell bay, dog friendly, two bedrooms, four people, two dogs, and the lawn that summer house sits on is fenced all round. The garage is the other half of it, a whole room for wet things that is not the house.

The hall takes coats and shoes and the lounge and diner is straight ahead, two sofas, a log burner and a table that seats four. The kitchen behind looks over the garden, so whoever is cooking can see what the dogs are doing, which is usually nothing. A door goes through to the garage and utility. The bedrooms are on the same floor, the king facing the garden and the twin beside it.

The booking this one is shaped for is four adults and two dogs with a great deal of kit between them. The garage takes bikes, boards and golf clubs, and Beadnell is a bay people bring equipment to. The cottage itself is compact and warm, one log burner and one shower room, and the summer house doubles as a second sitting room.

Newton Links runs south from the end of the bay, 2 miles of dune and marram held by the National Trust with sand below it end to end and a path along the top for a firmer footing. Low Newton is at the far end of that. Dogs are loose on all of it, and the going is soft enough that an old one can still manage the distance.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is The Lokki dog friendly?

Yes, The Lokki welcomes up to two dogs. The lawn is fully enclosed, so yours can roam freely outside, and the summer house in the garden tends to be a favourite spot from the moment you arrive.

  • Are dogs allowed at The Lokki year round?

The listing doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions on dogs, so it's worth contacting the owner directly to confirm availability for your dates. What we can say is that the setup — enclosed garden, a garage for wet kit, and easy access to Newton Links — makes it a solid choice in any season.

  • What should I know before visiting The Lokki with my dog?

The cottage takes two dogs and the enclosed lawn gives them a safe place to stretch out between walks. Newton Links is right on the doorstep — two miles of National Trust dune and beach running south from Beadnell Bay where dogs can be off lead the whole way, with softer going that suits older dogs too. There's also a dedicated garage and utility space for drying off wet dogs and storing kit after a day on the beach.
