The Old Byre was converted in 2024 on a single level, pitched beams and high ceilings throughout, and it stands on a farm at Byers Green that runs sheep and cattle. Nothing inside is reached by a staircase. A wide entrance takes the coats and the boots, then the barn opens into one long living space with the kitchen at the far end and the dining table set where the view over the pasture is best. Durham is under half an hour for the cathedral, and west of the farm the Durham Dales open into as much moor and forest as a dog can work through.
