Book now

The Olive Barn is a single storey stone retreat on the fringes of Clyro, set within private grounds with far reaching views across Hay-on-Wye and the Black Mountains. It wraps around a private enclosed courtyard garden, it sleeps eight, and this dog friendly barn welcomes a pair of dogs too.

Guests step straight into the open plan living space, elegantly furnished with a contemporary twist, where French doors open onto the courtyard and the dogs drift between the sunshine and the cool indoors. The kitchen looks into the dining area and its generously sized table, and the lounge area has a wood burner for after a day out. A second reception room holds large corner seating, a great collection of books, board games and a Smart TV.

The five bedrooms are all on the one level. Two super kings sit at the far sides of the barn with en suite bathrooms, and there is a spacious double and two singles, one of them tucked under the eaves. Outside, there is a private courtyard reached from the kitchen, a lawn with pretty borders and the two olive trees that give the barn its name. The table and chairs are there for summer dining, the fire pit for the cooler evenings, and two dogs stretched out on the grass in between.

Hay-on-Wye is 1.5 miles away, a cultural market town famed for its book festival, bookshops, farmers market and the newly restored Hay Castle. Walkers and their dogs have the Offa's Dyke footpath and the Wye Valley Walk close by, and the Roundabout Walk on The Begwyns above Clyro gives spectacular views for a gentler stroll.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is The Olive Barn dog friendly?

Yes, The Olive Barn welcomes up to two dogs. The property is built around an enclosed courtyard, which means your dogs are visible from every window and can be outside safely without you having to keep checking on them.

  • Are dogs allowed at The Olive Barn year round?

The listing doesn't specify seasonal restrictions, so it's worth checking directly with the property to confirm availability for your dates. What we can say is that the setup — a fire pit in the courtyard, a wood burner inside and open common land on the Begwns nearby — lends itself well to a dog-friendly stay at any time of year.

  • What should I know before visiting The Olive Barn with my dog?

The property accommodates two dogs, so it's not suitable for groups bringing more than that. The enclosed courtyard is a real practical bonus — it gives dogs outdoor space without the worry of them wandering off, and there's walking straight from the village up onto the Begwns common land if they need a proper run.
