The Shielings

Sea Palling, Norfolk

A four bedroom house for eight at Sea Palling on the Norfolk coast, with an enclosed garden, a hot tub, an outside games room with a bar, and four dogs welcome, the beach path in sight of the front door.

Book now

You can see the path to the beach from the front door, and it is short. Sea Palling's sand is 0.3 miles that way, and The Shielings is the dog friendly house for the family that means to use it: eight across four bedrooms, four dogs, a hot tub inside an enclosed garden, and a games room outside with a darts board and a bar the owners have left empty for you to fill.

Downstairs a kitchen feeds eight with chairs to spare, the lounge has the burner and the television, and a children's play kitchen sits by a door leading outside, which is the door four dogs will adopt. Upstairs the master shares a shower room with the twin, Jack and Jill fashion, the king zips apart into singles on request, and every bedroom has its own television.

The house is arranged for the evening that follows a day on the sand: the tub going, somebody at the darts, the burner lit inside for whoever has had enough of everybody, and four dogs dividing the enclosed garden between them. The beach is a village beach, cafes and an arcade behind it, calm water inside the reefs, and sand that goes on either way.

The sea here is held off by a line of offshore reefs put down in the 1990s, and the water inside them is calm, which is why the bays fill with children and the dogs get the sand beyond. Seals turn up on the reefs. Stalham is 4 miles inland where day boats go out onto the Broads, and the dunes run south for miles. A dog gets a wide beach at the end of a short path, every morning, without a car.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is The Shielings dog friendly?

Yes, The Shielings welcomes up to four dogs. The house has an enclosed garden where they can roam freely, and the beach path is visible from the front door — just 0.3 miles to Sea Palling's sand, no car required.

  • Are dogs allowed at The Shielings year round?

The listing doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions on dogs, and with an enclosed garden, a short walk to a wide beach, and dunes running south for miles, it's set up as a year-round dog-friendly base. We'd recommend confirming directly with the owners if you're planning an off-season trip.

  • What should I know before visiting The Shielings with my dog?

The house takes up to four dogs, and the enclosed garden means they have a safe outdoor space without needing to be watched constantly. The beach at Sea Palling has calm water inside the offshore reefs, with plenty of open sand beyond the shallower areas where children tend to gather — good to bear in mind if your dog likes to run. For a longer adventure, the dunes stretch south for miles from the village.
