Bodenham, Wiltshire
A 16th century thatched cottage for four in a tranquil hamlet on the Longford Castle Estate near Salisbury, with a fully fenced garden backing onto woodland and one dog welcome.
The Thatch At 123 is a historic 16th century thatched cottage in a tranquil hamlet within the Longford Castle and Estate, a charming area that remains peaceful and unspoilt, bordered by the River Avon and the River Ebble. Sleeping four, with a welcome for one dog, this is a dog friendly thatch of real character, and its garden is fully fenced, backing onto woodland with the River Avon beyond.
A path leads to the front door, and inside there are hooks for the coats before the charming sitting room, cosy and full of character, with a fire, wood supplied, a Smart TV and four comfortable chairs. The dog settles by the fire once the exploring is done.
The contemporary kitchen leads off the sitting room, with underfloor heating and a good sized table for four, blending traditional charm with contemporary comforts, while a utility room and a stylish shower room, walk in and modern, finish the ground floor. Upstairs, two bedrooms with beamed walls have been beautifully decorated, each made up with a king size bed, twins on request. A stable door in the kitchen opens to the cottage garden, where three steps lead up from the paved area to a lawn with shrub borders, and the dog is up them and onto the grass in a moment.
Leisurely walks follow the River Avon and the River Ebble, so the dog has woodland and water close at hand. Salisbury, with its beautiful cathedral, is 3 miles north, and within 11 miles lie Stonehenge, Woodhenge, Cranborne Chase and the New Forest National Park, all with an abundance of wonderful walking routes. The Wiltshire to New Forest cycle route passes by, and Mottisfont's rose garden makes a lovely outing.

Is The Thatch At 123 dog friendly?
Yes, The Thatch At 123 welcomes one dog. The cottage has a fully fenced garden backing onto woodland, and a stable door that lets your dog watch the garden from indoors with the bottom half closed — handy for keeping them safely inside while you take in the fresh air.
Are dogs allowed at The Thatch At 123 year round?
The listing doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions on dogs, so it's worth contacting the property directly to confirm availability for your dates. What we do know is that one dog is welcome, and the setup — fenced garden, ground-floor shower room, woodland walks on the doorstep — makes it a comfortable stay in any season.
What should I know before visiting The Thatch At 123 with my dog?
The property welcomes one dog, so it's not suitable for multi-dog households. The garden is fully fenced on two levels, with woodland and the River Avon beyond the fence rather than roads or open fields, which makes it a reassuringly secure spot. There's also a walk-in shower room downstairs, which is worth noting if your dog finds stairs a struggle.
