Book now

The Wood Shed is a characterful former agricultural building in the tranquil hamlet of Redlynch, and three dogs are welcome to come and explore the New Forest National Park from it. Long walks through spectacular countryside await, and this dog friendly barn, with its charming character features and a wood burner, makes a lovely base for a family of five.

A welcoming hallway leads, on the left, into the inviting open plan living space, where the wood burner makes the perfect spot to relax after a day out, the dogs warming up beside the fire. Throw open the doors to the garden and leisurely meals at the dining table come with the striking character of the space all around. The kitchen area has everything needed for cooking in.

A flight of stairs climbs to a galleried landing, with a stylish king size bedroom, a pretty double and a cosy single, all set into the eaves with exposed beams and views over open countryside. A beautiful free standing bath is the centrepiece of the contemporary bathroom. Out from the lounge, the patio has garden furniture and a charcoal BBQ, and while you take in the views over pastureland, three dogs can stretch out on the fully enclosed lawn.

The New Forest's network of routes weaves through the landscape for walking, riding and cycling, with many charming country pubs along the way. Burley village, Beaulieu and Bucklers Hard are all within reach, as are Stonehenge and the cathedral city of Salisbury, while the waterside town of Fordingbridge, and Lymington with its cobbled streets and sailing heritage, are well worth the drive with the dogs aboard.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is The Wood Shed dog friendly?

Yes — The Wood Shed is genuinely set up for dogs, welcoming up to three of them, which is a generous allowance for a cottage that sleeps five. The enclosed garden gives them a safe space to run off lead, and the working farm setting means there's plenty of outdoor life on the doorstep.

  • Are dogs allowed at The Wood Shed year round?

The listing doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions on dogs, and the cottage's setup — wood burner, enclosed garden, farm location — suits visits in any season. If you need to confirm availability for specific dates, it's always worth checking directly with the property.

  • What should I know before visiting The Wood Shed with my dog?

The big thing to be aware of is that the New Forest's livestock — ponies, cattle and pigs — roam freely under ancient rights, so dogs will need to stay on the lead whenever animals are nearby out on the Forest. The cottage's own garden is enclosed and a safe place for dogs to be off lead, but once you're out exploring spots like Fritham and Eyeworth Pond, leads go back on around the stock.
