One gate. That is all that stands between the garden at Tides and the dunes, and through it are the sand, the beach and the Tarka Trail, so three dogs go from the lawn to open ground without a street in between. Four bedrooms sleep eight people. For a dog friendly week by the sea, the sand could hardly be nearer.
The house was built in 2020 and it shows in the way it handles mess. A bright hall takes coats and boots, the utility room has its own sink, and out in the garden a shower runs hot for sandy dogs and wetsuits alike, with a beach hut in the garden for the boards and the bikes. Most of what comes back off the beach is dealt with before it crosses a floor.
Three dogs are welcome, and the house has the space for two families to share. The open plan living space sits under a vaulted ceiling, with picture sliding doors to the lawn, and there is a separate living room as well as a snug with table football for when eight people need to be in three places. The garden is enclosed, with a large hot tub, a gas BBQ and giant garden games.
Instow's golden sands lie just beyond the dunes, where the Taw and the Torridge combine and flow into the sea, and in the summer months a passenger ferry crosses the river to Appledore. The Tarka Trail passes right next to the house, traffic free for walking with the dogs, while the South West Coast Path has clifftop walks of its own. Croyde, Woolacombe and Saunton Sands are a little further afield.
