Tranquillity Cottage is a well named, charming and traditional cottage in the heart of Appledore, a village steeped in maritime history, and two dogs come too. The owners pitch it for long walks along the coast or across the moors with your four legged friends, and the enclosed rear courtyard, which they call the real highlight, is where a day with the dogs winds down at this dog friendly cottage for four.
The spacious hallway takes coats and shoes and opens into an attractive open plan lounge and diner. The lounge is welcoming and snug, with beautiful original exposed beams, a stone wall, a Smart TV and a gas wood burner where two dogs warm up once the coast path is done, and the bright, airy dining area has plenty of space for everyone. Upstairs, the master double has a separate dressing area and the twin is just as comfortable, both finished to a high standard.
Out at the back, the enclosed courtyard is a delightful, inviting space for bistro style dining, morning coffee or evening drinks, with the dogs at your feet after a day of exploring the village and the coastline around it. Appledore's pubs and restaurants are close for an evening out, but plenty of nights end out here instead.
Boat trips cross to Instow and its sand dune beach, fishing trips head out into Bideford Bay, and the coast path leads to Bideford or to Westward Ho!, just over a mile away, with 2 miles of sandy, surfing beach. The Maritime Museum tells the story of the village's nautical heritage, while the Tarka Trail and Clovelly give the dogs fresh ground to cover, with Lundy Island out beyond.
