Trevoyne stands 200 metres up from the sand at Harlyn Bay, which puts the beach closer than most people park. Bedrooms sit below and the living space above, so the view arrives when you climb rather than when you walk in. Three kings and a twin share four bathrooms between them, two of those en suite, and the king at the rear has sliding doors straight onto the garden terrace. Upstairs the kitchen, dining room and lounge run together with a snug off them, and two balconies face the water. The double garage takes boards, bikes and a dartboard, and a good deal of sandy dog.
Come up off the beach late on and the house sorts everybody out by floor. Two dogs go through to the terrace and drop where the paving is still warm, the boards go into the garage, and whoever got up the stairs first has taken the balcony and is refusing to report on what the tide is doing. Harlyn is a north facing bay with shelter on three sides, shallow and wide when the tide is out and open to dogs. From the end of it the coast path runs west round Trevose Head to the lighthouse, past Mother Ivey's Bay on the way, and picks up Booby's and Constantine on the far side. Padstow lies inland across the neck of the headland, harbour, boats and the estuary widening below the town.
