Book now

Trewalkin Barn sits just above the village of Talgarth, a beautifully presented, renovated dog friendly barn with exceptional views across the Black Mountains. It sleeps three, welcomes two dogs, and alongside its pretty garden has a separate enclosed lawned area, suitable for dogs to run freely.

Inside, the barn is thoughtfully decorated and surprisingly spacious. The galley-style kitchen has all the equipment for a good meal, with a Belfast sink as a nice touch, and the living area is bright under exposed beams, with a wood burner and the first basket of wood provided. Once the fire is lit, the dogs drift over and stay put till bedtime.

The bedroom is up on the mezzanine, with white-painted stone walls, a king-size bed and a single bed in the corner, while the shower room is downstairs. Outside, the garden runs from the side of the ivy-covered barn round to the back, kept very nicely and set with furniture and a BBQ, all facing those views over the Black Mountains. Dogs go on a lead in the courtyard and when leaving the property, and the enclosed lawned area is theirs to run in.

Talgarth is 2 miles away, with shops, pubs and restaurants, and the Talgarth Mill and bakery are a must for anyone with a love of bread. Woodland walks and bike trails surround the barn, so the dogs have walking all around them, and grazing sheep and ponies can be seen at Rhos Fach Common. Brecon and the historic book town of Hay-on-Wye are both within easy reach.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Trewalkin Barn dog friendly?

Yes, Trewalkin Barn welcomes up to two dogs. There's even a separate fenced-off area within the garden set aside purely for dogs, so they can have a run around safely without you having to worry.

  • Are dogs allowed at Trewalkin Barn year round?

The listing doesn't specify seasonal restrictions, so it's worth contacting the owners directly to confirm availability for your dates. The owners live across the same courtyard, so they're well placed to answer any specific questions you might have.

  • What should I know before visiting Trewalkin Barn with my dog?

The stairs up to the mezzanine bedroom are steep, and most dogs end up settling on the ground floor — some may need a hand on those steps. Ponies and sheep graze loose on Rhos Fach Common just up the lane, so a lead is essential up there. On the plus side, woodland tracks start directly behind the barn, meaning two dogs can get a genuinely different walk every day without touching the car.
