Turnstones - Sheringham

Sheringham, Norfolk

A two bedroom cottage for four at Sheringham in north Norfolk, with an enclosed garden, a walk-in shower and a separate downstairs WC, and two dogs welcome.

Book now

A steam railway still runs out of this town. The Poppy Line kept going after the branch closed and takes its trains inland through the fields behind Sheringham, which is not a thing many seaside towns have left to them. Turnstones stands in the middle of it all, dog friendly, sleeping four, its garden enclosed and two dogs welcome.

Above are a double and a twin, with a bathroom holding a walk-in shower and a separate WC down below, and that WC counts for more in a cottage this size than a second bathroom would. The sitting room takes the television and the door two dogs will use all week. The kitchen behind it has been fitted out properly rather than minimally, which is not always true of a let this near a beach.

Outside there is the enclosed garden, a patio with furniture out on it, and nothing else at all. For two dogs in a town it is exactly enough. A welcome pack is left for arrival. What a cottage like this is really offering is that it asks nothing of anybody: you get here, the dogs go straight out inside a fence, and the week has started before the bags are in.

The park lies 1.8 miles inland, a Repton landscape of oak, sweet chestnut and rhododendron laid over a valley running down towards the water, with a tower on the high ground put there for looking at the whole of it. It is National Trust ground and it is the reason to walk inland from a seaside town rather than along it. A dog gets woodland, open lawn and a proper climb without leaving the parish.
