Book now

Ty Canolog is a mid 19th century stone cottage full of quirky character at Cregrina near Builth Wells, and its pretty riverside garden is enclosed, with the river fenced off. That makes it a dog friendly stay where two dogs can roam the grass with the River Edw running past, while four adults and two children settle into rooms of exposed stone walls and oak beams.

Through the porch is a spacious lounge with an inviting wood burner, for which the owner supplies a first basket of logs, and an alcove leads to a cosy dining area seating six. A few steps down at the back is the kitchen, where the garden and the river fill the view while you cook, and the dogs will be keeping an eye on the water too.

A second staircase rises from the utility to a large private twin with its own seating, a TV and fantastic views over the river and countryside. The main stairs lead to the family bathroom, tucked in a quirky nook, and on to the master double by way of a mezzanine twin that suits children. Outside, the covered patio and charcoal barbecue make a tranquil place to watch for life in and around the river while the dogs explore the grass.

Walking, cycling, fishing, canoeing and horse riding are all available from the doorstep, and trout fishing on the Edw can be arranged. Two dogs have lush green hills and farmland all around them, Groe Park in Builth Wells keeps four giant redwoods planted well over a century ago, and the spa town of Llandrindod Wells and the reservoirs and waterfalls of the Elan Valley are within reach.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Ty Canolog dog friendly?

Yes, Ty Canolog welcomes up to two dogs. It's a well-thought-out setup for dog owners — the garden is fully enclosed, and the River Edw at the bottom of the garden is fenced off, so your dogs can enjoy the outdoor space without you having to fish them out of the water.

  • Are dogs allowed at Ty Canolog year round?

The listing doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions on dogs, so it's worth contacting the property directly to confirm availability for your dates. What we can say is that the surrounding Edw valley and the nearby Wye at Builth Wells offer great walking in every season.

  • What should I know before visiting Ty Canolog with my dog?

The property takes a maximum of two dogs, so it's not suitable for larger groups of pets. The enclosed garden and fenced-off river make it a genuinely practical base for dog owners, and the lanes along the Edw valley are quiet — more sheep than cars, as the description puts it — making for relaxed walking straight from the cottage.
