Four dogs are welcome at Ty Helyg, a luxury detached house in the village of Penrhos on the borders of Shropshire and Mid Wales. This dog friendly, five star home sleeps ten, with a private hot tub set on the patio and an enclosed garden that opens onto uninterrupted countryside views.

After a walk, use the side door: it leads from a covered area into a spacious utility room, the place to drop coats and towel down four dogs before anyone reaches the elegant, double height hall. A lovely ground floor double sits beside a stylish shower room, and through the inner hallway the opulent open plan living space has feature windows, granite worktops, a hand crafted breakfast bar, and the dining table brings all ten together over supper.

Evenings come with a choice of fires. One wood burner glows in the beautifully furnished lounge, and a dual view burner warms the conservatory, a room flooded with natural light that has comfortable sofas, a library and wonderful views over the garden and paddock. The dogs settle by whichever is lit while someone chooses a film. Four more bedrooms wait at the top of the wooden staircase, and outside the hot tub takes in the view from sunrise to sunset, with a table and chairs leading onto the lawn and a BBQ for a sundowner.

Ty Helyg is a short drive from Welshpool, Oswestry and medieval Shrewsbury, with its castle, the Severn theatre and independent shops. For walking with the dogs there are the footpaths of the Welsh mountains and the Shropshire Hills, and for other days boating or fishing on the river, hang gliding on the Long Mynd, and the National Trust at Attingham Park and Benthall.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Ty Helyg dog friendly?

Yes, Ty Helyg welcomes up to four dogs, and the whole setup has been thought through with them in mind. There's an enclosed garden, underfloor heating throughout, and a side entrance that brings you straight into a utility room and shower room — so dogs (and people) can be sorted out before anyone reaches the main living spaces.

  • Are dogs allowed at Ty Helyg year round?

The listing doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions on dogs, and nothing in the property details suggests otherwise. If you want to confirm availability for a specific time of year, it's worth checking directly with the property.

  • What should I know before visiting Ty Helyg with my dog?

The side entrance is the one to use — it opens into a covered area with a utility room and a separate shower room, giving you a proper place to clean up four dogs and ten people before heading into the main house. Beyond the enclosed garden, you're well placed for walks: Llanymynech Hill is right on the doorstep for something more rugged, and the Montgomery Canal towpath offers a flat, easy stretch in either direction.
