Whistlestop

Aldborough, Norfolk

A three bedroom cottage for six at Aldborough in Norfolk, with an enclosed garden holding a summer house and a small pond, a downstairs bathroom and two dogs welcome.

Book now

There is a pond in the back garden and the owners give its size, four feet by four, which is the useful half of the information. It sits inside the enclosed ground rather than beyond it, so two dogs meet it on the first morning and it is worth walking them past it once on a lead. Whistlestop stretches to six across three bedrooms at Aldborough in Norfolk, a dog friendly cottage taking two.

You come in to a lobby where the boots stop, and the dining room and its table for six is the first proper room. The kitchen runs off that with a double oven and everything else a party of six needs. The bathroom is downstairs, off the kitchen, with a bath and a separate shower in it and the back door beside it, which settles where two wet dogs get dealt with before anybody carries anything upstairs.

The living space is split in two. The main lounge takes an armchair and a three seater, and a snug beyond holds smaller seating and its own door onto decking in the garden, which two dogs will use more than anybody. Three bedrooms sit above: a king, a twin, a single holding bunk beds, and a WC. The garden is enclosed, with table and chairs out and a summer house holding more.

Aldborough keeps a village green with a pub on it and very little else, which is what a quiet Norfolk village actually amounts to. Sheringham Park lies five miles north, a landscaped estate of woodland, rhododendron and a tower with the coast in view from the top of it. Two dogs get a green at the door and a park worth the short drive.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Whistlestop dog friendly?

Yes, Whistlestop welcomes two dogs. The garden is fully enclosed, there's a snug with its own door onto the decking that your dogs will make good use of, and the downstairs bathroom off the kitchen is perfectly placed for sorting out wet or muddy dogs before anyone heads upstairs.

  • Are dogs allowed at Whistlestop year round?

The listing doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions on dogs, so it's worth getting in touch with the owners directly to confirm availability for your dates.

  • What should I know before visiting Whistlestop with my dog?

The enclosed garden has a small pond — four feet by four — which sits within the garden rather than beyond it, so it's worth walking your dogs past it on a lead when you first arrive to let them get acquainted with it. Beyond that, Aldborough has a village green right on the doorstep, and Sheringham Park is just five miles north, offering woodland walks and a coastal view from the tower.
