Winnies

Overstrand, Norfolk

A three bedroom house for four and a fifth at Overstrand on the north Norfolk coast, with an enclosed rear garden and patio, two dogs welcome, and the beach 0.1 miles from the door.

The beach is 0.1 miles from this door, which at Overstrand means down rather than along, because the village stands on the cliff and the sand lies underneath it. Winnies is the dog friendly house for four here, or five at a squeeze, three bedrooms above, a fenced garden out the back, and two dogs allowed.

A hallway with a cloakroom off it opens into the whole ground floor as one room: two sofas at one end, a dining table seating six at the other, the kitchen along the side. Above are a double, a twin, a single and the bathroom. Three bedrooms for four people leaves a room going spare, which in a house with two dogs and wet things in it turns out to be more useful than it sounds.

The garden behind is enclosed, part patio and part lawn, a patio table and chairs out on it, and it is the entire outdoor arrangement. For a house this near the sea that is the right proportion. Two dogs can be out of the door, down the road and onto sand before the kettle has finished, and the garden is where they come back to and shake.

Overstrand keeps a cliff top cafe and a pub and very little more, and that is the point of it. Cromer is 2 miles west and does the opposite: a pier out into the sea with the lifeboat house at the end and a theatre halfway along, crab boats worked straight off the beach, and a seafront that has been in this business for a century and a half. Two dogs get an empty beach at one end of a walk and a working town at the other.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Winnies dog friendly?

Yes, Winnies welcomes up to two dogs. The house has an enclosed rear garden with a patio and lawn where dogs can dry off and shake down after a beach trip, and the sand at Overstrand is just 0.1 miles from the front door.

  • Are dogs allowed at Winnies year round?

The listing doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions on dogs at Winnies, but we'd recommend confirming directly with the owner when you book, as beach access conditions along the north Norfolk coast can vary at different times of year.

  • What should I know before visiting Winnies with my dog?

The property allows a maximum of two dogs, so it's worth bearing that in mind if you're travelling with a bigger pack. The enclosed garden is the only outdoor space at the house, but with the beach less than a tenth of a mile away and Cromer's working seafront just 2 miles west, there's plenty of room to roam once you're out the door.
