The beach is 0.1 miles from this door, which at Overstrand means down rather than along, because the village stands on the cliff and the sand lies underneath it. A hallway with a cloakroom off it opens into the whole ground floor as one room: two sofas at one end, a dining table seating six at the other, the kitchen along the side. Cromer is 2 miles west and does the opposite: a pier out into the sea with the lifeboat house at the end and a theatre halfway along, crab boats worked straight off the beach, and a seafront that has been in this business for a century and a half. Two dogs get an empty beach at one end of a walk and a working town at the other.
