Wye View Lodge is a charming three bedroom log cabin in the Wye Valley near Clyro, with views reaching across Herefordshire, the Black Mountains and the Brecon Beacons National Park. This single storey dog friendly cabin sleeps four, with room for a fifth, and takes two dogs. The owners keep dogs of their own, and sheep graze the fields around.

Mornings begin with breakfast out on the spacious veranda, both dogs sprawled at your feet and walking boots waiting by the door. Indoors, the lounge, kitchen and dining space share one warm, open room, with a burner to gather round for games or a movie night. Family meals come out of a well stocked kitchen and go to the dining table or back out to the veranda.

Bedrooms are thoughtfully decorated, a double with an en suite, then a cosy twin and a single sharing the family shower room. Out in the enclosed garden there is a BBQ with panoramic views, and the dogs can lie out there while supper cooks. It is one of two lodges on the land, and the other lodge and the farmhouse are out of sight and totally separate. The owner plants a tree for every visitor, and so far around 7,000 have gone in.

Offa's Dyke Path is close by, and the National Trust's Begwyns common land rolls away in open country for walking with two dogs, while mountain bikes and canoes can be hired locally. Hay-on-Wye, the book lovers' town, is 4 miles away, with bookshops, afternoon tea and its famous literary festival every May.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Wye View Lodge dog friendly?

Yes, Wye View Lodge welcomes dogs — up to two are allowed to stay. The lodge has been set up with dogs genuinely in mind: the whole place is on one level, so older or less mobile dogs can follow you from room to room without any stairs to negotiate, and the garden is enclosed and fenced so they have somewhere safe to roam.

  • Are dogs allowed at Wye View Lodge year round?

The listing doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions on dogs, so it's best to check directly with the property when booking to confirm availability for your dates.

  • What should I know before visiting Wye View Lodge with my dog?

The lodge accommodates up to two dogs and the single-level layout makes it easy for dogs of all ages to get around comfortably. The enclosed garden gives them a safe outdoor space, and the surrounding area is excellent walking country — Hay Bluff and the Gospel Pass are around 4 miles away, with ridge walking in both directions that'll give an energetic dog plenty to do.
