Alderley Edge is a wooded sandstone escarpment rising above the Cheshire Plain, threaded with paths that wind through beech and pine before breaking out onto exposed rock with views south across open farmland. The National Trust-managed circuit of around 5.6 km links shaded woodland trails with short, sharp climbs onto the ridge, passing old copper mine shafts and the carved face of the Wizard along the way. The contrast between dark, enclosed woodland and bright, open viewpoints gives the walk more character than its modest distance might suggest. It draws crowds near the main viewpoints at weekends, but quieter paths through the deeper woodland are always available.
