Binevenagh Summit Walk, Limavady
County Londonderry
Binevenagh is the north western tip of the Antrim basalt plateau, a long escarpment rearing 400 metres above the Magilligan lowlands and the mouth of Lough Foyle. The summit walk from the Bishops Road car park is a short dog friendly moorland loop to the triangulation pillar and the cliff edge, with one of the most jaw dropping panoramas on the north coast.
Dogs must be on a lead for the whole route because sheep graze the plateau and the cliff edge is vertical. Surfaces are a mix of gravel forest track, boggy grass and stone path, sensible boots strongly advised. Parking is free at the Bishops Road car park but with room for only a dozen cars; there are no toilets or cafe on the mountain so stock up in Limavady before the drive up.
