Broadway Tower and Cotswolds Escarpment

Worcestershire

Dog Friendly Rating: 9/10 A Cotswold escarpment walk to Broadway Tower with views stretching to 13 counties and classic limestone downland scenery.

Broadway Tower stands at 312 metres on the Cotswolds escarpment where Worcestershire meets the AONB, and this 6.4 km circuit climbs steadily from the village through fields and woodland to reach it. The tower is visible throughout the ascent, pulling you forward across the landscape, and the views from the top are exceptional: the Vale of Evesham spread below with the Malvern Hills, Brecon Beacons and on clear days the Black Mountains all visible. The 253 m of climbing is sustained but never technical, with the route following field-edge paths and quiet lanes through enclosed meadows before the escarpment opens up. A deer park near the tower holds fallow deer that add movement and interest to the summit area.

Dogs get a properly satisfying dog friendly walk here with the climb providing genuine exercise and the escarpment grassland offering space and fresh air at the top. The woodland and hedgerow sections on the ascent carry good seasonal scent, and the open ground around the tower gives dogs room to range. Off-lead potential is limited as livestock graze the surrounding fields and meadows, so leads should be carried throughout. The deer park near the tower requires particular care. Broadway village is reliably dog-welcoming, with several pubs and cafes that open their doors to four-legged visitors. A cafe with outdoor seating at the tower grounds provides a natural stopping point. Best suited to dogs with the fitness for a sustained uphill walk.
