Croome Park Capability Brown Circuit
Worcestershire
Croome Park is Capability Brown's first major landscape commission, 600 acres of parkland, woodland and water features designed in the 1750s and now managed by the National Trust in the Worcestershire countryside south of Worcester. This 6.4 km circuit takes in the main lake, the ruined boathouse, the Island Pavilion and Park Seat viewpoint, following paths through parkland that demonstrates Brown's genius for reshaping entire estates into composed, naturalistic landscapes. The 52 m of climbing is barely noticeable, and the paths are gentle on a mix of grass and gravel. The lake provides a focal point throughout, with the parkland trees and woodland belts framing views across the designed landscape.
This is a dog friendly walk that combines gentle exercise with genuine cultural interest. The lakeside provides water scent and birdlife, the woodland belts offer shade and richer scent from leaf litter, and the open parkland gives dogs space and fresh air. Off-lead potential is moderate, with designated zones clearly marked, though livestock graze parts of the parkland and leads are needed in those areas. The flat, accessible terrain suits dogs of all ages and fitness levels. The combination of water, woodland and open grass in Brown's designed proportions creates a walk that feels different to wilder countryside: composed, calm and satisfying in its balance. Toilets and a cafe are available at the visitor centre.

Off-lead potential is moderate here , there are designated zones where dogs can roam freely, and these are clearly marked around the park. However, livestock graze in parts of the parkland, so leads are required in those areas. It's worth keeping an eye out for the signage as you walk the circuit so you know where your dog can have a run.
