Falling Foss and the Arncliffe Woods Loop
North Yorkshire
Falling Foss is a sixty-foot waterfall tucked into Arncliffe Woods in the North York Moors, and this dog friendly circuit from Littlebeck climbs through mossy woodland, past the Hermitage carved boulder, to the cascade itself and the riverside Tea Garden at Midge Hall. The return picks up the moor edge above May Beck before dropping back to the village.
Dogs love this one: the woodland sections are shaded, the beck offers safe paddling spots for confident swimmers, and most of the loop is off lead friendly under close control. Livestock appears on the short moorland stretch near Parsley Beck where sheep may be grazing, so lead up for that section. Watch for the steep drops right above the falls themselves. Underfoot it is rooty woodland path, stepping stones across the beck a couple of times, and firm moor track. Roadside parking in Littlebeck is tight, the larger May Beck car park is a better bet, and the Falling Foss Tea Garden welcomes dogs outside.
