Grosmont to Egton Circular Walk
North Yorkshire
Grosmont is the northern terminus of the North Yorkshire Moors Railway and this dog friendly loop takes you through the Esk Valley to the neighbouring village of Egton and back. The route climbs out of Grosmont past the engine sheds, drops through woodland to the River Esk at Egton Bridge, picks up the old toll road to Egton proper, then returns via field paths and lane.
Dogs can be off lead in the woodland sections where there is no stock, but you will pass several grazed fields on the valley floor and the climb out of Egton, so lead up when sheep or cows are in view. The River Esk offers brilliant safe paddling at Egton Bridge and Glaisdale. Underfoot is firm field path, woodland track, a short stretch of quiet lane and a few stone stiles. Grosmont Station has pay and display parking and seasonal toilets, and both the Postgate Inn at Egton Bridge and the Wheatsheaf at Egton welcome dogs.
