Flamborough Head Coastal Walk

East Yorkshire

Dog Friendly Rating: 7/10 A bracing clifftop circuit around England's chalkiest headland, with wide sea views and dog friendly pubs a short walk from the car park.

Flamborough Head is a dog friendly chalk promontory on the East Yorkshire coast, where kittiwakes wheel below soaring white cliffs and the North Sea crashes at the base of the lighthouse. The coastal circuit from Flamborough village loops out to the headland, passes the lighthouse and fog signal station, then drops to the sheltered coves at North and South Landing before climbing back to the pantile roofs of the village.

Dogs need to be on a lead throughout: the cliff edges are unfenced in long stretches, sheep and ground-nesting seabirds use the clifftop pasture, and cows graze a couple of fields on the return leg. Underfoot it is close-cropped turf and firm farm track, easy on paws year round, with only short muddy patches after rain. There is a large pay and display car park at the lighthouse plus free on-street parking in Flamborough village, toilets and a cafe at the lighthouse in season, and several dog friendly pubs back on Chapel Street.
