Pistyll Rhaeadr Waterfall and Berwyn Ridge Walk
Powys
Pistyll Rhaeadr is the tallest single drop waterfall in Wales at 240ft, a thunderous spout of water at the head of a deep glacial cwm in the Berwyn mountains. This dog friendly walk takes in the falls at the start, then climbs steadily through the cwm and onto the Berwyn ridge to take in Moel Sych (827m) and Cadair Berwyn (830m), the highest peaks in the range, before returning to the falls.
The lower path is a firm grass track but the upper sections are exposed mountain with a precipitous drop to Llyn Lluncaws on the ridge, real navigation skills needed in poor weather. Most of the route is on access land where dogs can be off lead but sheep are present on the lower slopes and the Berwyns hold ground-nesting birds (lead between 1 March and 31 July). The Tan-y-Pistyll cafe at the falls is dog friendly. Parking is pay and display at the cafe car park.
