Precipice Walk, Dolgellau

Gwynedd

Dog Friendly Rating:9/10An easy dog friendly contour walk that traces a high level shelf around Foel Cynwch with extraordinary views of Cadair Idris and the Mawddach Estuary.

The Precipice Walk is one of the great viewpoint walks of Wales, a level path cut around the side of Foel Cynwch hill above the Mawddach Valley, with constantly changing views of Cadair Idris, the Rhinogydd, Llyn Cynwch and the Mawddach Estuary winding out to Barmouth. This dog friendly circular walk is short, surprisingly flat and stunningly scenic.

Despite the dramatic name the walk is on a wide grass and earth path, but it is exposed to a steep drop on one side, so dogs must be kept on a lead at all times. The path crosses sheep grazing land throughout, with cattle in the woodland section. There are toilet facilities and a free car park at Saith Groesffordd, but no other facilities on the route. Bring water for the dog, particularly in summer. Multiple dog friendly pubs in Dolgellau, with the Royal Ship and George III Hotel both welcoming dogs.
