Rivelin Valley Circular Walk, Sheffield
South Yorkshire
The Rivelin Valley Nature Trail is a favourite Sheffield dog walk and this circular makes the most of both banks of the river. Starting near Malin Bridge, the route follows the wooded trail upstream through old mill ponds, past stepping stones and over small weirs, before crossing over and returning on the opposite bank. It's dog friendly and shaded for most of the way, which makes it ideal in warm weather when higher ground feels exposed.
Dogs can run off lead along most of the trail and many make a beeline for the river, which has several safe paddling spots. The route is popular with local dog walkers, joggers and families, so recall is useful at busy times and a lead is sensible near the road crossings at either end. There are no livestock concerns on the trail itself. Rivelin Park Cafe and the paddling pool make a good mid-walk stop, and there are roadside car parks at Walkley Bank Tilt, Rails Road and Rivelin Dams for different start points.
