Strangford Lough Lecale Coastal Walk
County Down
This is a stretch of the Lecale Way long distance trail, running along the south western shore of Strangford Lough before rolling out to the sea cliffs near Ardglass. It is a dog friendly route for most of its length, wandering past Audley's Castle, Kilclief Castle and the tide swept narrows at Strangford itself.
Dogs must be on a lead where the trail crosses grazing fields and farm lanes, and owners should be aware of reports of occasional loose farm dogs at one or two points near Killard. Surfaces are a mix of tarmac lane, grass shoreline path and gravel permissive tracks, fine for most paws. Parking is easiest at Strangford ferry terminal with free spaces at weekends, and there are cafes, toilets and pubs in the village.
