Scrabo Country Park and Tower Circular

County Down

Dog Friendly Rating: 8.5/10 A dog friendly short hill walk to the iconic Scrabo Tower with panoramas over Strangford Lough.

Scrabo Country Park rises sharply above the town of Newtownards and the circular walk climbs past Killynether Wood to the foot of the Victorian Scrabo Tower. It is a dog friendly route with plenty of dogs out most days, suitable for almost any fitness level once you accept a short sharp pull at the top.

Dogs must be on a lead because the lower meadows are grazed by sheep at certain times of year, and the summit is used as a designated activity area so loose dogs would not be welcome. Paths mix tarmac drive, grassy field edge and rougher wooded track. Parking is free at two car parks open around the clock, toilets operate 10 to 4, and picnic benches sit around the tower base.
