Wicken Fen Extended Circular Walk
Cambridgeshire
Wicken Fen is one of Europe's most important wetlands and the National Trust's first ever nature reserve, sitting in the flat, wide skies of the Cambridgeshire fens. The extended circular walk leaves the visitor centre and loops along the lodes and droves before returning through reed bed and grazing marsh, and it is a dog friendly route as long as you stick to the outer trails rather than the protected Sedge Fen boardwalk.
Dogs are welcome on leads on the Four Lodes and Adventurers' loops because of the konik ponies and Highland cattle used for conservation grazing, but only assistance dogs are allowed onto the Sedge Fen boardwalk and woodland walk. Terrain is flat, dry on the gravel droves and grassier on the lode banks, with no stiles. Pay and display parking sits 120 yards from the visitor centre, and there are toilets, a small cafe and a refill point at the start.
