Wye Valley: Brockweir to Bigsweir Bridge
Monmouthshire
This stretch of the Wye Valley between Brockweir and Bigsweir Bridge is one of the most peaceful sections of the river, with steep wooded slopes, slow meandering water and very little development. The dog friendly walk follows Offa's Dyke Path north along the high wooded ridge, then drops down to cross the river at Bigsweir and returns south along the Wye Valley Walk on the riverbank.
This is a classic mixed terrain walk on woodland paths, ancient hollow ways and easy riverside greenway. Dogs can run off lead in the woods where there is no livestock, but should be kept under control on the higher Offa's Dyke section near steep drops and through the few field crossings on the return. Brockweir itself is dog friendly, with the Brockweir Inn welcoming dogs for a post walk pint. Parking is at the small free village car park near the bridge, with overflow on the green.
