Pembrokeshire: Strumble Head Lighthouse Walk
Pembrokeshire
Strumble Head is a dramatic rocky promontory at the western end of Cardigan Bay, capped by a working lighthouse perched on the small islet of Ynys Meicel and connected to the mainland by a short metal footbridge. This dog friendly circular walk follows the Pembrokeshire Coast Path west from the lighthouse around the rugged headland of Pencaer to Pwll Deri and the Iron Age hill fort of Garn Fawr, returning across the moorland.
The terrain is rough grassy clifftop, rocky moorland and short lane sections, with several steep climbs and exposed cliff edges (up to 140m high in places). Most of the route is access land where dogs can be off lead, but the headland is part of a coastal grazing scheme with horses, cattle and sheep, so a solid recall is essential. The autumn seal pup season at the Strumble coves is a highlight. There are no facilities anywhere on the route, so bring water for both you and your dog. Free parking at the lighthouse car park, fills early.
