A Henry VIII fortress on a headland above Falmouth, and one of the most generous sites here: all dogs on leads welcome inside the buildings too.
Pendennis is a proper day out and one of the most dog friendly major sites English Heritage run. Henry VIII built it to defend the Carrick Roads, and it has since survived a lengthy Civil War siege and two world wars, so the site runs from Tudor gun tower through Victorian barracks to a Second World War observation post.
As you storm the ramparts, work through the hidden tunnels and take in the guns and wartime displays, your dog can come with you, because the policy here is unusually generous: all dogs on a lead are welcome, including inside the buildings and around the grounds, with outside seating at the café. The headland setting also gives you wide grassy lawns for picnics, sea on three sides, and the Pendennis headland path running right round below the castle.
The main car park is on Castle Drive, signed past the Ships and Castles Leisure Centre, with a 2.1 metre height restriction. There is a café, shop, toilets, museum, gardens and picnic seating. Views run right across the harbour mouth to St Mawes.

Accessible parking within the castle grounds is limited and operates on a first-come, first-served basis, (use TR11 4LP for Sat-Nav). Visitors with mobility concerns can use the drop-off point at the castle gates. For deliveries and access to the holiday cottages, please use TR11 4LP.
