The Rollright Stones are three distinct monuments in one place, spanning nearly 2,000 years of Neolithic and Bronze Age development. The King's Men is a circle of weathered limestone stones, gnarled and pitted with age. The Whispering Knights is the remains of a portal dolmen burial chamber, far older than the circle. The King Stone stands alone across the road. The legend ties them together: a king and his army turned to stone by a witch, with his knights caught muttering treason behind his back.
As you work between the three, your dog gets quiet high ground on the Cotswold edge, with the stones set in small enclosed paddocks and open countryside and footpaths all around.
Open daily all year, with a £2 fee requested by the Rollright Trust who manage the site day to day. Parking is a lay-by, and the King Stone requires crossing a fast road, so leads on for that. There is no official guidance on dogs here. The enclosures are grazed at times, so keep your dog on a lead and off the stones themselves.
