Frequently Asked Questions
Yes, Ballantrae Beach welcomes dogs with no restrictions in place. It's a shingle beach with good coastal walking in both directions, making it a decent outing for dogs who enjoy a roam — though with a rating of 6/10, it's worth knowing it's a working estuary environment rather than a classic sandy stretch.
Yes, dogs are welcome at Ballantrae Beach throughout the year with no seasonal restrictions. This makes it a reliable option whatever time of year you're exploring the south Ayrshire coast.
Ballantrae Beach is a shingle beach at the mouth of the River Stinchar, so it has more of a dramatic, rugged character than a gentle sandy bay — great for a windswept walk but worth bearing in mind underfoot. Parking is available in Ballantrae village, and there's a pub, shop and the King's Arms Hotel nearby if you need refreshments after your walk. The Stinchar estuary attracts birdlife, so if your dog has a strong prey drive, it's worth keeping that in mind near the water's edge.
