Llangennith Beach

Swansea

Dog Friendly Rating:9/10The longest beach on the Gower Peninsula with Atlantic surf, dunes and year-round dog access for much of its length.

Llangennith Beach stretches for over a mile along the western tip of the Gower Peninsula, a vast sweep of golden sand backed by rolling dunes and buffeted by Atlantic swells. This is the Gower at its wildest — big skies, crashing surf, and a shoreline that feels genuinely remote even though the car park sits just behind the dunes. At low tide the beach opens up into an enormous expanse of firm sand that seems to go on forever.\n\nThis is a dream of a dog friendly beach for energetic dogs who need space to run flat out. Off-lead access is available year-round, and outside of summer the beach can feel almost deserted. The surf can be powerful here, so keep water-loving dogs to the shallows when the swell is up. The dunes behind the beach add extra interest for dogs who love to explore tussocky grass and rabbit scent trails.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Llangennith Beach dog friendly?

Llangennith Beach is one of the best beaches on the Gower Peninsula for dogs, earning a 9/10 rating on Wildpack Collective. Its vast expanse of golden sand and open dunes gives dogs plenty of room to run off-lead, and the beach's relatively remote feel means you're unlikely to be hemmed in by crowds outside of peak summer.

  • Are dogs allowed at Llangennith Beach year round?

Yes, off-lead access is available at Llangennith Beach throughout the year. Outside of summer the beach can feel almost deserted, making it a particularly rewarding visit for dogs who love space and freedom.

  • What should I know before visiting Llangennith Beach with my dog?

Llangennith faces the Atlantic and the surf can be powerful, so if your dog is a keen swimmer it's worth keeping them to the shallows when the swell is up. On the plus side, the dunes backing the beach are a great bonus for exploratory dogs , plenty of tussocky grass and rabbit scent trails to investigate. Parking is available at the National Trust pay-and-display at Hillend or in the village car park, and the seasonal Surfside cafe and the Kings Head pub in the village are handy for refuelling after your walk.
