Traigh Mhor

Traigh Mhor is a long, beautiful beach on the west coast of North Uist, neighbouring Traigh Iar to the south on this spectacular stretch of the Outer Hebrides Atlantic coast. The beach has the characteristic appearance of the Hebridean machair coast: white shell sand, turquoise water, rich flowering machair behind, and a sense of vast, open space that is entirely unlike anything on the mainland English or Welsh coast. In good weather the colour of the water here rivals the Caribbean in appearance. The beach is rarely visited by anyone other than local residents.
There are no dog restrictions at Traigh Mhor. Year-round access under Scottish land access legislation. The same machair sensitivity applies as at Traigh Iar: dogs should be under close control during the spring and summer nesting season. The beach offers outstanding off-lead walking on the sand itself with essentially unlimited space.
