1 / 8Bayards Cove Inn
Dartmouth, Devon
Yes. Dogs can stay in all rooms, up to 2 dogs per room.
An ancient boutique inn on Lower Street in Dartmouth, where dogs get beds, bowls and locally made treats, and an extra sausage at breakfast.
Bayards Cove Inn is an ancient boutique hotel on Lower Street in Dartmouth, where history seeps from the walls and children and dogs are welcomed alongside you. Its seven rooms are named after famous nautical figures of the Royal Navy, and this dog friendly hotel opens every one of them to dogs.
All seven rooms welcome dogs, two at most per room, and every dog that comes to stay gets a dog bed, bowls and locally made treats. The rooms are decorated in a contemporary style drawn from South Devon's naval history, with locally roasted coffee and loose leaf tea, and some have views of the cove and the river. Nelson, a family suite on the third floor, looks out over Bayards Cove, Dartmouth Castle, the River Dart and out to sea. A dog left on its own in the room is a question to put to the inn when you book, as its pages don't mention it.
Bring your dog down to breakfast and ask the staff for an extra sausage, on the house. Breakfast comes with every room, and the kitchen goes on to serve lunch, afternoon tea and supper, with menus of rustic classics, nostalgic British favourites and modern dishes, plenty of locally landed fish, a daily catch of the day and Dartmouth crab. Cream teas, cakes and drinks are served all day. The inn doesn't mention dogs in the bar either, so ask before you order a drink there.
There are many walks in and around Dartmouth, and the team is always on hand with local advice on where to take your dog. Wildpack's map puts Sugary Cove, the closest dog friendly beach it lists, 0.8 miles from the inn.
