Bampton, Westmorland and Furness
Yes. Dogs can stay in selected rooms, up to 2 dogs per room.
An Art Deco hotel built in 1937 within a 100 square mile nature reserve, where dogs join you for dinner in the bar.
Built in 1937 as part of the Haweswater Dam project, Haweswater Hotel replaced the Old Dunn Bull Inn, which was flooded when the dam was completed, and today it stands within a 100 square mile nature reserve. Its walls are local stone, the roof is Cumberland slate from old farm buildings in Mardale, and the coping stones in the gardens came from submerged Mardale walls. This dog friendly hotel asks you to bring your dog for the walks around the reservoir and beyond.
A room can take two dogs at most, and the dog friendly rooms are named, Wainwright and Mardale among them, while some rooms are kept dog free for guests with allergies. The 17 rooms are individually designed with decor inspired by the art deco period, and the Lake View rooms look out over Haweswater and the mountains. The hotel doesn't state its view on dogs staying in the room alone; ask about it before you arrive.
In the bar, dogs are more than welcome on a lead, for lunch and drinks by day and for dinner with you in the evening. Dogs aren't allowed in the restaurant, which the hotel describes as a more romantic setting for dinner. The snacks, sandwiches and brasserie-style dishes served in the bar by day are all made in-house by the chefs, with a menu that changes regularly around the freshest produce available.
Red squirrels visit the gardens daily, and the hotel is named among the 100 Best Places to Stay in the UK. Staff on site will help you plan a route, and a Haweswater packed lunch lets you make a day of it; on Wildpack's map, Branstree and Selside Pike from Mardale Head is 3.8 miles away when your dog is ready for a bigger day.
