Hotel du Vin Edinburgh

Edinburgh, City of Edinburgh

Yes. Dogs can stay overnight, up to 2 dogs per room.

A boutique hotel in Edinburgh's Old Town, in a former poorhouse, asylum and science lab, where dogs find a bed, a protective mat, bowls and treats.

Once a poorhouse, an asylum and a science lab, the building that houses Hotel du Vin Edinburgh now holds 47 rooms and suites in the historic Old Town, a whisper away from the lively Royal Mile. Several of its original features were kept in the conversion, the castle and Holyrood Palace are close at hand, and this dog friendly hotel makes a city break on foot with your dog an easy thing to plan.

Small to medium dogs are welcome, up to two per room. Your dog's pack holds a bed and a protective mat to go under it, a pair of bowls, and treats in a bag alongside poo bags. Beyond your bedroom door, keep the dog leashed or carried, and never leave it on its own in the room; should a team member need to come in, your dog has to be secured first. The rooms themselves run to custom-made sleigh beds, hand-sprung mattresses and Egyptian cotton linens.

Dinner plans need a word with the hotel first, so ask which dining areas, if any, a dog can use. Bistro du Vin is built on fresh, tasty, well-made dishes and ingredients chosen for depth and flavour, with afternoon tea and Sunday lunch besides. Later there is a nightcap at the bar or in the Whisky Snug, and the hotel lists extensive wine cellars.

The Signature Suite faces the inner courtyard, with a balcony, a sitting room and a roll-top bath. When your dog needs to stretch its legs, Arthur's Seat and Salisbury Crags Circular, a Wildpack walk for Old Town dogs, is 1.1 miles away, and Burntisland Beach, 8 miles out of the city, is the nearest dog friendly beach on our map.

Facts checked October 2026 from the hotel's own website. Details can change, so please confirm anything important, especially the dog rules, with the hotel before you book.
